Discord Message Logging

Discord message logging keeps a copy of what was said in your server after the original is gone. LoggerBot records deleted and edited messages — including the content, the author, and the channel — and posts each one to a log channel you choose.

It covers normal channels and threads, one-off deletions and channel purges, and pairs with attachment logging so removed files are kept too.

How message logging works

LoggerBot listens for Discord message events in real time. When a message is deleted or edited, the bot posts a log embed with the details it captured while the message still existed — Discord does not include the old content in the event itself, so a logging bot has to keep its own short-term copy to show you what changed.

Messages sent by bots are skipped by design, so a busy webhook or another bot does not flood your message log. Each category — deletions, edits, bulk deletes — has its own toggle and its own destination channel.

Setting it up

  1. 1Add LoggerBot to your server, then enable Delete Message and Edit Message.
  2. 2Open the dashboard, pick your server, and set a main log channel — or run /setlogall in Discord to create a channel per category automatically. See the getting-started guide.
  3. 3Leave the category on the main channel, or point it at its own channel from Individual Log Config — the per-log setting always wins.

Filter out the noise

Exclude a spammy channel, a bot-command channel, or a trusted staff role from message logs under Ignore Options. More on filtering in Customization.

Frequently asked questions

Can LoggerBot show messages that were deleted before it was added?

No. A logging bot can only record events that happen while it is in the server and running. It cannot recover history from before it was invited.

Why is a deleted message not showing up?

Check that the Delete Message log is enabled and has a channel set under Individual Log Config, and that LoggerBot can view and send messages in that channel. Messages sent by bots are skipped on purpose.

Are edited messages logged with the old text?

Yes. The Edit Message log shows the content before and after the edit so you can see exactly what changed.

Does message logging cover threads?

Yes. Deletions and edits inside threads are logged the same way as messages in a normal channel.
